Café NiL has been part of Munich's gay scene since 1989, when it opened in the heart of Glockenbachviertel. This long-established gay café-bar is known for its distinctive Egyptian-themed interior, featuring a large central U-shaped bar, colourful murals, lotus-inspired columns and comfortable seating.

The venue reopened in its current style in 2010, restoring the central bar that had been a focal point for socialising since its early days. Café NiL also serves classic German food, with dishes including cornflake schnitzel, pork stew and goulash soup. Open daily from 3pm to 3am, it's a convenient spot for anything from an afternoon drink to a late-night meal.

Edelheiss is a small, traditional gay bar in Munich's Glockenbachviertel, particularly popular with bears and mature men. The rustic, Bavarian-style interior has just a handful of tables and bar stools, so it can get crowded, especially in the evenings.

Expect a predominantly local crowd, German Schlager music, reasonably priced beers and a relaxed, no-frills atmosphere. Thursdays feature a Beard Evening, with two-for-one beers for bearded men. It's a good choice for a drink and a chat rather than a big night of dancing.

Bar Rendezvous is a small, lively gay bar on Müllerstraße, just a two-minute walk from Sendlinger Tor station. Open since 1999, it attracts a mixed-age LGBTQ+ crowd, with younger guys, older regulars and friends gathering for drinks, pop hits and cheesy Euro-disco music.

The intimate space can get busy, with guests sometimes dancing by the front windows. Entertainment includes karaoke, quiz nights and occasional cabaret performances. Open daily from 6pm until late, Rendezvous is a casual alternative to Munich's larger gay nightlife venues.

In the heart of the Glockenbackviertel, the gay neighbourhood in Munich, Auroom is a small cocktail bar specialising in classic drinks with a twist. Some of their inventive drinks have received international awards, so this place is not to be missed. How about a Snickers Martini or a Wasabi Lime Sour?

This bar is very unpretentious and inconspicuous - the only way to know that this is a gay venue is the little rainbow flag over the doorway. The crowd tends to be older, the interior is rustic, and the atmosphere is cozy and friendly. Open seven days a week.
