Germany’s two great cultural capitals, Munich and Berlin, could hardly be more different, but both are packed with extraordinary art, architecture, political history and, perhaps less famously, LGBTQ+ stories.

This is the tour that explores both sides of Germany’s history. Alongside Munich’s grand palaces and Berlin’s world-class museums, you’ll discover the country’s remarkable place in LGBTQ+ history: from the birth of the modern gay rights movement and the pioneering scientific study of sexuality in Berlin to the city’s legendary nightlife during the Weimar era. You’ll also explore the much darker story of LGBTQ+ persecution under the Nazis, while learning about extraordinary LGBTQ+ figures who resisted the regime.

Highlights include the fantastical palaces of Bavaria’s King Ludwig II, the sites connected to the White Rose resistance movement, Berlin’s historic LGBTQ+ quarter, the world of Christopher Isherwood and Cabaret, and the story of Germany’s earliest LGBTQ+ rights organisations and pioneering gender-affirming surgeries. You’ll discover stories that are often missing from mainstream history, including gay members of the anti-Nazi resistance, Berlin’s groundbreaking queer culture, and the LGBTQ+ figures who helped shape modern Germany.

There is also an optional extension through Leipzig, Dresden and Prague, taking in Bach’s Leipzig, Dresden’s exceptional art collections and historic Prague while uncovering further LGBTQ+ stories, including those of Lili Elbe and Fredy Hirsch.
